Adoption Evaluations

Psychological Testing for Adoption:

During an adoption process, you may be asked to obtain a psychological evaluation. This is most often the case in foreign adoptions if there has been any history of psychological or psychiatric treatment. This step can feel onerous and anxiety-producing; however, the process itself is relatively brief and straightforward.

An Adoption Evaluation at Rittenhouse Psychological Services typically includes 5 steps:

  1. Scheduling an appointment with our psychologist in charge of evaluations.
  2. Filling out an intake questionnaire before your appointment.
  3. A 2 hour virtual2-hour appointment will include:
    a. An interview exploring your background, history with treatment, your adoption and child-rearing history, as well as questions about your current psychological functioning
    b. A few computerized true/false and multiple-choice questionnaires.
  4. This information will all be compiled into a report which will be reviewed by your adoption agency.
  5. Once the report has been approved, we will have a brief virtual feedback session with you to review the evaluation results and any recommendations made.
